AFTER NOT GUILTY · PRIVACY AND SUBMISSIONS

Privacy and Submissions Notice

How this independent project handles enquiries and information offered by visitors.

Who is responsible for the project?

After Not Guilty is an independent public-interest project operated by Simon Peers. For privacy enquiries, you can write to Simon Peers, 1 Mill Wynd, East Linton, East Lothian, EH40 3AE, or email simonpeers1963@gmail.com.

Information you choose to send

The general contact form asks for your name, email address and message, with an optional subject. We use this information to read and respond to your enquiry and, where necessary, keep an appropriate record of the correspondence.

The website is hosted on WordPress.com. Hosting and form-delivery systems may process technical information and the information entered in the form to operate and protect the service.

Please do not submit sensitive case details through the form

Do not use the general form to send confidential legal material, details of active proceedings, health information, identification numbers, names of witnesses, allegations about identifiable people, or documents containing such information. If you wish to discuss contributing a detailed experience or case study, send a short general enquiry first so that a separate, appropriate process can be agreed.

Why and how information is used

For routine correspondence, we rely on legitimate interests in responding to enquiries and administering this independent project. Any separate research use, especially where information relates to criminal allegations, offences, health or other sensitive matters, requires its own assessment of the applicable lawful basis and additional safeguards before collection or use.

Messages and experiences submitted to the project are not automatically published. We seek separate, informed permission before using an identifiable account, quotation or case study and discuss anonymisation where appropriate. We do not sell contact details or use them for unrelated marketing.

Sharing and retention

Correspondence is accessible to Simon Peers and processed by the website and email services used to receive it. We share identifiable correspondence with other people or organisations for research or publication only under a separate, clearly explained arrangement, except where disclosure is required by law.

Routine general enquiries are deleted or anonymised 12 months after the final substantive response, unless an ongoing enquiry, a legal obligation or a separately agreed research purpose justifies longer retention. We record and periodically review exceptions and explain separate arrangements when they are agreed.

Your privacy rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may be able to request access to information held about you, correction, deletion or restriction of its use, or object to processing. Where consent is relied upon, you may withdraw it. Contact simonpeers1963@gmail.com to make a request. You also have the right to raise a concern with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
